Meet & Greet at the WWII Plane Crash Site
(Friday pre-event)
8:15 AM
February 10

Join fellow geocachers in a challenging hike to this Meet and Greet event. The target meeting time at the official posted event coordinates is 10:00 AM, but those that would like to hike up together should meet at 8:15 AM at the parking area for Non-4WD vehicles (see the GC6ZNB8 event site for waypoint information). If everyone meets at the parking area at 8:15 AM, we can try to fill up any empty seats in 4WD vehicles for the trip up to the trail head.

Lace up your hiking boots, and let's meet at the first painted cross at the posted coordinates (end of hike) at 10:00 AM.  There we can swap TB's and geocaching stories.  Afterwards we can pay our respects to the four individuals who lost their lives and those who wish can spend time checking out the wreckage. There are two caches that can be searched.  One is GC6ZDG0 which is very close, and the other is GCYWDN which is at the very top of the mountain.   This is NOT an easy hike, but will be very rewarding.  Bring plenty of water and be aware of the typical desert precautions.

A CITO and a Rocket Launch
(Friday pre-event)
1:00 - 2:00 PM
February 10

What: A typical Cache In, Trash Out event to clean up this area to make it more appealing to anyone traveling through here. My vehicle can hold quite a bit of garbage, but anyone who has a vehicle to carry away large quantities of garbage is definitely encouraged to bring it. My tentative plan now is to take what we collect up to the North Gila Transfer Site off of Laguna Dam Road. I'll bring large trash bags and some drinking water, but please bring your own equipment (gloves, trash picker-uppers, etc.).

If the weather isn't too windy, we'll see if we can launch a couple of model rockets for the fun of it after the clean-up.

Where: The posted coordinates east of Ave 6E, south of the Ocotillo development on a dirt/gravel road.  A 2WD grocery-getter should make it no problem.

Flash Mob
(Friday pre-event)
5:15 PM
February 10
A flash mob happens when a group of people assembles suddenly and performs a brief, odd act, then quickly disperses. Meet and laugh with many of the geocachers who will be attending the Yuma Mega Event. This is always a fun short activity. There will be a donation container for depositing any left over "lettuce" to support the 'Yuma Community Food Bank'.  There are several restaurants nearby, so grab some dinner here or head on over to the GSAK presentation and eat at the Omega Restaurant and Bar before the presentation begins.

Be sure to arrive a bit early so you don't miss it.

This is an official geocaching event. For more information and to log your "will attend" go to

There is no charge for this service; it is just planned to be part of the fun at the Mega.

Travel Bug Exchange
TRAVEL BUGS are various objects with a trackable number ON them or a tag ATTACHED to them. These items are meant to travel from one cache or event to another. At this year's MEGA EVENT cachers will be able to drop off, pick up or just 'discover' them.  Before dropping off a Travel Bug, each one must be logged  into the event's inventory (via geocaching.com).  Cachers picking up these Travel Bugs will then log them into their possession.  Cachers can also just 'discover' these items without taking possession of them.

Volunteers at these tables will NOT be responsible for any personal Travel Bugs or coin collections.  Please do NOT leave them on any of the tables to be picked up later.
Path Tag Exchange This is an opportunity to give, get, or trade Path Tags.
