Did you know that Yuma holds the Guinness Book of Records for the most sunshine of any city in the world?? No wonder that there are so many things to see and do in the area. From geocaching in the desert, to fine dining in the cool of the evening at one of the many great local restaurants.... Yuma is the place to be !!!  The city of Yuma celebrated its 100th anniversary in April 2014!
GETTING HERE IS HALF THE FUN !!!
If you're traveling to Yuma, getting to the Mega Event will be half the fun. Driving, Flying, or coming on Burro back, has never been easier.
DRIVING.... Yuma is centrally located along Interstate 8 about halfway between Phoenix and San Diego. It is approximately 150 miles from each of those locations. Highway 95 comes from the north through Quartzite.
FLYING .... the Yuma International Airport is centrally located and taxi service or rental vehicles are readily available.
 
BURRO.... If you're coming on your Burro... you are on your own !! ... watch for traffic and bring lot's of water, hay and your shovel !!!
THINGS TO SEE AND DO
GEOCACHING - Yuma has over 2000 caches within a 50 mile radius of the City. There is always plenty to do for all age levels and abilities. Yuma has beautiful winter weather. There are a variety of cache types: night caches, desert, water, mountain, city, puzzle, hand carved containers and event caches.
            
NOTE: some caches are located on Arizona State Lands and the Barry M. Goldwater Range.
PERMITS ARE REQUIRED TO ENTER THESE AREAS.

For permits to the BMG RANGE:

BY MAIL BEFORE YOU ARRIVE (recommended) - Fill out and mail an application form; allow at least 10 days to receive your permit in the mail.

IN PERSON DURING BMGR OFFICE HOURS - [08:30 to 15:00 Monday thru Friday - closed between 11:30 and 12:30 for lunch (except Thursday, when lunch is between 12:15 and 13:15....??) PHONE: 928-269-7150 for more info.] You must go to the Main Gate of MCAS Yuma (the Marine Base, N32 39.382, W114 34.887) .... ask the sentry and they will direct you to the Office. Be sure it is during regular business hours and bring ID and your Vehicle Info..... OR....If you wish to download and complete your application before visiting the MCAS Office...CLICK HERE for the application form.... then print BOTH pages of the application, complete ALL questions and make sure you have initialed ALL the spaces..... then take your completed application to the office at the MCAS and get your permit. NOTE:...Each person over 18 yrs old must have their own permit, and all applicants must produce photo ID (like a drivers license) at the office, prior to receiving your permit.
BE VERY CAREFUL IN DESERT AREAS AND STAY ON THE MAIN ROADWAYS
HOW ABOUT A DAY TRIP TO MEXICO ?? 
In a quaint little town called Los Algodones, just across the Mexican border, a few miles from Yuma, there are all kinds of things to do from geocaching to shopping, even get your teeth fixed, your eyes checked, and your belly rubbed (only if you want?). There are several geocaches placed around town, so here's your chance to get a geocache in Mexico !!
You can be shopping in Los Algodones from Yuma in less than half an hour by car. Remember that businesses in Los Algodones operate on Arizona time. The US Border Crossing, in Andrade, CA, operates between 06:00 am and 10:00 pm Pacific Time. There is easy parking on the USA side ($6 per car) and just walk across the border and explore.... BUT...MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR PASSPORT to get back into the good ol'USA

The City of Yuma is blessed with history and intrigue.... from the "Wild West" days, to the Steamship traffic up and down the Colorado River, to the development of one of the highest agriculturally developed areas in the world, .....there is lot's of things to see and do.
